Our state-of-the-art facility is equipped with the latest anesthetic and surgical technologies to ensure that your pet’s procedure is safe and effective. Our experienced veterinary team utilizes advanced monitoring equipment to track your pet’s vital signs during the procedure and ensure that they remain stable and comfortable. We also provide a pre-surgical consultation to pet owners, where we discuss the surgical procedure, potential risks, and postoperative aftercare.
We understand that having your pet undergo surgery can be a stressful and anxious experience. That’s why our team works hand-in-hand with pet owners, ensuring that they are comfortable and informed throughout the process. We take the time to sit down with clients to explain the surgical procedure and answer any questions they may have. Our veterinary team also offers guidance on postoperative care, including medication, exercise limitations, and general care.
Spay and Neuter Services
At KKM Veterinary Clinic our goal is to provide care that will help your pet live their healthiest and happiest life. If you do not plan to breed your pet, spaying or neutering your pet is a great option. It offers numerous medical and behavioral benefits, while also helping to reduce the number of unwanted litters, which all too often become strays.
How Your Pet Benefits from Spay or Neuter Surgery
Spaying refers to the surgical removal of a female pet’s ovaries and uterus, while neutering refers to the surgical removal of a male pet’s testicles. Both surgeries are 100% effective in preventing unwanted breeding, but they also bring with them other benefits:
- No longer experience messy, frustrating heat cycles
- Less urgency to roam and find a mate (which too often leads to accidents with cars)
- Less likely to exhibit urine-marking behavior
- Reduced chance of mammary gland tumors
- No more risk of pyometra (uterine infection)
- No chance of uterine or ovarian cancers
- Decreased aggression
- Less urgency to roam and find a mate (which too often leads to accidents with cars)
- Less likely to exhibit urine-marking and mounting behavior
- Reduced chance of prostate problems
- No risk of testicular cancer
When to Have Your Pet Spayed or Neutered
The general timeline for a spay or neuter surgery is about 6 months of age, however, that timeline can vary. Some larger breed dogs benefit more from a later surgery at 12-16 months of age, while female kittens typically benefit from an earlier surgery. Our veterinarian will discuss your pet’s options with you, so your pet has their surgery at the appropriate time.
Tumor and Mass Removal
It’s not uncommon for your pet to develop a lump occasionally, especially if your pet is older. If you feel a new bump, don’t panic – these are not always a cause for concern. If your pet develops multiple bumps, a bump larger than a pea, or a harder bump, we recommend bringing them in so we can perform an examination. Additionally, if you notice a change in your pet’s behavior, such as losing appetite, this might indicate a larger underlying issue.
When you bring your pet in for an examination, we may recommend a biopsy. Depending on how large the growth is, your pet may need a local anesthetic. The biopsy results usually take 1-2 weeks to come back. If we determine that the growth is cancerous, we will recommend removal.
Before removing a tumor, we will recommend that your pet undergo a variety of pre-surgical tests to ensure your pet is healthy enough to undergo anesthesia. If we decide to move forward with the tumor removal, we’ll provide thorough pre-surgical instructions.
If you’ve noticed an odd lump or bump, schedule an appointment so that our knowledgeable veterinarians can do an assessment.
